Genesis Echo (GECigarette) | Review Portuguesa - 16 November 2011

At the first look, it looks like an Ego with Shapped Cartos.

It performs really well, batteries will most likely last you 1 full day, and a very easy-to-use device.
As I’ve started with the Ego-T devices, I had no issues at all using this device, and this one performs better than the Ego-T

(not much of a fan of “cold” temperature systems).

Non-Smoking Laws Can Kiss My Atomizer - I Have an E-Cigarette! - 02 September 2010
The article is written by our customer Lori Leidig and published at Associated Content from YAHOO!.

"I have said numerous times over the last 30 years that I will never stop smoking. I mean that. As I stated vehemently in my article "What They Won't Tell You: Smoking Has Health Benefits" there is an upside to nicotine usage. A very big upside. With the Electronic Cigarette you get all of the benefits of the nicotine without the downsides to all of the tar and other additives you find in a normal cigarette. Plus, the E-Cigs bypass all non-smoking laws.

E-Cigs generally come in three parts:

The battery is the long end and can be charged numerous ways. I currently have one charging via USB on my computer, while another is plugged into a wall outlet. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to charge an E-cig battery, and it will last between 3-8 hours depending on how often you hit it, and how old the battery is. As with any other electric item, battery life wanes with age. These e-cig batteries need to be totally replaced after 2-3 months of use. They run around 15usd each, depending on which company you buy from this price can go up or down.

The Atomizer is the most important component, I have found. This is the part that screws onto the battery and creates a mist which makes the experience feel like a real cigarette... or not. Many people I have talked to say they did not like E-cigs and have gone back to regular cigarettes. I strongly believe they tried the wrong company. I have tried several different companies and there is a vast difference in effectiveness of their atomizers. If you get a good one, there is zero difference in experience between the e-cig and a real cigarette. For the record, do a Google search for the Genesis brand. They are located in the UK and have the best atomizers I have tried. What the atomizer does is to heat up the liquid nicotine creating a fine mist which resembles smoke. It is not, however, smoke. It is mist. Big difference in health concerns, no difference in smoking feel."

How to use Genesis E-cigarette - 15 August 2010

Step 1

Primary E-Cig Parts: Battery, Atomizer, Cartridge

It is wise to read the user's manual in order to correctly charge the battery or batteries included in the kit. Once the amount of charge time is complete, it is time to get started in assembling the E-cigarette.

Wash hands thoroughly then lay a clean cloth or towel on a flat stable service that is easy to access. This is especially important if one chooses to fill blank cartridges versus using the pre-filled cartridges.

Lay out all the items from the E-cigarette kit on the cloth including the pack of pre-filled cartridges with 5 cartridges inside. Include any additionally ordered items such as e-liquid, blank cartridges, or pre-filled cartridges of varying kinds. If using blank cartridges to fill with e-liquids, include either a toothpick or at the least a 16-gauge syringe with needle, and a pair of tweezers.
Bring the battery, which is a long cylindrical piece to the front where it is easy to grasp along with an atomizer and one of the pre-filled cartridges.

Everything should be right in front and easy to access for assembly.

*If the plan is to fill blank cartridges with e-liquid, then set out a blank cartridge, bottle of e-liquid, the toothpick or syringe, and the tweezers.

Step 2

Pick up the battery and the atomizer parts. Align the threads so the two pieces screw together without much force, paying special attention not to cross thread the items.

*If the E-cigarette ordered has a button on the battery's side, one can press it to ensure the the atomizer heats up. Only press this button a maximum of 5 seconds. Less is preferable.

Step 3

Open the bottlewith the pre-filled cartridges. Each set of five pre-filled and blank cartridges come with a type of rubber covering at the end. This little rubber stopper earned the name of cart-condom among the many users that frequent online forums whose thread pertain to electronic cigarettes.

Remove the rubber stopper from the cartridge. Make sure the fibers inside the cartridge are not pulled out so far as to allow them to touch the atomizer. If a few strands are out of place, use the tip of a toothpick, pair of tweezers, or even a syringe needle (for those who will be filling blank cartridges) in order to press the material back into the cartridge yet not far. Press the filler to a point where it sits just inside the edge of the cartridge.

Hold the battery with atomizer in one hand while pressing the pre-filled cartridge into the opening of the atomizer. Do not apply overdue pressure. Sometimes it requires a slight twist; however, if twisting be sure to hold the battery and atomizer so neither are turning as this can pull the wires within the atomizer loose thus rendering the E-cigarette's atomizer useless.

*Others who will be filling blank carts should open a blank cartridge, ensure the filler is not hanging out of the cartridge, and then either use the e-liquid bottle as a dropper or if it includes a dropper use this to drop liquid into the cartridge filler a drop at a time. Stop when the liquid is beginning to puddle in the cartridge. It is also possible to draw the e-liquid into a syringe then press the needle into the cartridge in order to press the plunger thus filling the blank cartridge's absorbent filler with e-liquid of personal choice; however, do not overfill as this can flood the atomizer. If there is too much liquid simply draw it back into the syringe via the needle and return to the e-liquid bottle.

As mentioned above with pre-filled cartridges, add the cartridge to the battery and atomizer sections already put together by pressing the cartridge into place. It is extremely important NOT to twist the atomizer if a slight twist to insert the cartridge is necessary as this can damage the atomizer beyond repair, which will require the use of an extra atomizer included in some kits or a new purchased atomizer.

Step 4

The E-Cigarette is ready for use. Tobacco "analog" cigarettes are for smoking; however, since the E-Cigarettes have only water vapor instead of smoke, the term used for puffing on an E-cig is vaping. It's time for the first vape.

Depending on whether the E-cigarette has a manual switch or not will make a difference in the type of puff one will take to vape. If the E-cigarette has a button, then press the button for no more than 5 seconds while inhaling the vapor. Anyone using the E-cigarette can either hold the vapor in one's mouth or inhale as is done with an analog cigarette. Many users tend to hold the vapor then exhale allowing the nicotine to absorb without inhaling into the lungs but others prefer to inhale as one would an analog cigarette so it is clearly left to preference.

If the E-cigarette in questions does NOT have a manual button on the battery then it is necessary to take a short quick puff/drag/inhale to tell the chip inside the battery it is time to work and then take another puff afterward to take in the vapor from the cartridge as it's heated by the atomizer.

It is important not to allow the atomizer to become too hot regardless of whether the battery unit has a manual button or requires the primer puff to activate the atomizer. High temperatures can damage the atomizer causing it to go out completely with no hope of reprieve thus requiring one to use the alternative atomizer included in the kit, if said kit includes an extra atomizer or the purchase of a new atomizer.

Step 5

The E-cigarette will eventually reach a point where it feels dry when vaping or reach a point where there is little to no vapor coming from the unit. It is time to either "top off" the cartridge by adding a few drops of e-liquid to the cartridge or if one is using pre-filled cartridges, it's time to replace the spent cartridge with another pre-filled cartridge.

*Those who opt to refill the cartridges should rinse the filler material well every few days and when changing flavors of liquid say from tobacco-flavored to cherry. This way the flavor mix will not come out with some unique but YUCKY taste. It is important to note that some suppliers offer non-flavored e-liquid with a variety of E-cig save flavorings and bottles to allow one to experiment with mixing flavors. A prime example is mixing a cherry flavor with a coke flavor making the E-cig taste like an old-fashioned Soda from the old drug store days of Cherry Coke. Other flavors are available including peach, mango, cream, praline, grape, lemon, vanilla, french vanilla, and etc... In addition, there are tobacco flavors available WITHOUT the tobacco smell of second-hand smoke as it is still vapor without odor and harmless to others. Tobacco flavors including a taste much like those of Virginia Slims, Marlboro, Benson Hedges, 555 (Popular in the UK), and others including a variety of menthol brands. Someone somewhere even created a jerky-like flavor though this E-How writer and E-cigarette user will not be testing that flavor! Hey, but to each their own.

Over time, the parts of the E-cigarettes will require replacement. The length of time for the batteries and atomizers last generally includes the quality of the parts, frequency of use, allowing the atomizer to get too hot, twisting the atomizer causing breakage of wires, and the build up from the flavorings; however, it is possible to clean the atomizer to remove much of the build up. Sometimes this will lengthen the working time. Users that choose to refill cartridges will need to replace cartridges and filler from time to time even with washing the filler material out when needed or when changing flavors of liquid. The cartridges will need replacing as well over time.

Still, when comparing E-Cigarettes to analog cigarettes, the E-cigarettes tend to be much cheaper to use. In some cases, users have actually been able to kick the nicotine habit for good dropping from the highest milligram of 24mg, to 18mg, 11mg, 4mg, to 0mg of nico

How to refill your cartridge - 15 August 2010

You have just received your electronic cigarette.  You’ve charged your battery and you are ready to smoke.  Take your atomizer, which comes with a protective plastic guard that looks like your cartridges/mouthpiece, and screw the atomizer into the battery. Now pull the protective guard off.  Take one of your empty cartridges/mouthpiece that have been provided with your kit and remove it from the sealed packaging.  Remove the clear rubber stopper from the end.  If you received pre-filled cartridges, just unwrap one, start e-smoking, and when it is done (i.e. not more vapor is being produced), just refill it as an empty cartridge.

For your reference, pick up the protective plastic guard and the empty cartridge/mouthpiece and look down into both of them.  You will see inside the empty cartridge/mouthpiece a small fluffy pad.  That small fluffy pad is your nicotine cartridge or the wick.  It is this wick where you will drip 2-3 drops of eLiquid each time you want a cigarette!  You will notice the absence of this in your protective plastic guard.  To keep from getting confused, throw out your protective plastic guard.

To fill your wick, simply take your eLiquid dropper and drip 2-3 drops onto the wick.  Allow the ELiquid to settle for a few seconds, then place the cartridge/mouthpiece onto your atomizer.  Give it a few starter puffs by taking quick drags.  Once you develop vapor, you are ready to smoke.  When your wick is dry, you will know because your unit will no longer create vapor.

So what if you are going out and wish to take pre-filled cartridges with you so you don’t have to take your bottle of eLiquid?  Easy as pie.  Take the rubber stoppers you have removed from your cartridges/mouthpieces and set them to the side.  Take the small plastic ziplock your batteries and atomizers came in and set it to the side.  Take your cartridges/mouthpieces and set them so the small hole in the mouthpiece is facing down.  Fill your cartridge as you would for one smoke and let it settle.  Move on to the next cartridge.

You can fit up to 5 cartridges in your small ziplock.  Once you have filled all 5 with liquid go back and drip 2-3 more drops into each cartridge again.  The most drips you should put into a cartridge ever is 7-8 drops.  You will know when they are overfull because they will start to “pool” with eLiquid.  Try to avoid pooling.  Pooling can cause damage to your atomizer.

Once your cartridges are full, place the rubber stopper back into the bottom of the cartridge and place them, rubber stopper up, into your ziplock back.  Seal the ziplock and place into your velvet carrying pouch with your extra batteries and maybe an extra atomizer.  Then, you are ready to go out for the day or the night.  By filling 5 cartridges you are taking with you approximately 1 1/2 pack of cigarettes.

So how long should your empty cartridges and eLiquid last?  Each 15ml eLiquid bottle is equivalent to 300 cigarettes.  The cartridges/mouthpieces can last until they fall apart.  What do we mean by fall apart?  They will losen and not fit as tightly on the atomizer.  The wick will become compacted and no longer hold liquid.  The wick will become loose and fall out of the cartridge compartment.  Any one or all of these things can happen.

If you follow the above directions, your eSmoking experience will go smoothly.  Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to “drip” just as easily as you lit a tobacco cigarette.  Happy eSmoking!

Here is the mouthpiece with the cartridge and plug all separated.  Please note: You can refill a cartridge with ELiquid while it is still in the mouthpiece.  You really don’t ever need to take the cartridge out of the mouthpiece.  Inside the cartridge is white fiber that acts as a wick to hold the ELiquid:

For those who are curious, you can take the cartridge out of the mouthpiece by sticking a toothpick through the small hole in the end of the mouthpiece.  Again, you can refill the cartridge while it is still in the mouthpiece:

How to clean your atomizer - 15 August 2010
When cleaning the connection points, take a lint free cloth or smooth tissue and gently clean in and around the threads that connect your battery and your atomizer. Make sure that any cloth you use is clean and does not have a tendency to snag or tear apart. The last thing you need is random threads and paper towel particles clinging to the connection area. This not only can cause electrical current disruptions, but can also be very hazardous if any of those particles were to drift or be wiped inside the atomizer connection, into the heating coil housing. After making sure the outer connections are clean, take a fresh tissue or untarnished area of your lint free cloth and gently dab and wipe the area around the atomizer’s vent hole. Make sure not to leave any liquid or material on the connection.

Another valuable lesson in atomizer care is overnight storage and regular purging of your atomizer housing and coil chamber. While this might sound complicated, it’s something that everyone can and should do. Simply put, throughout the day, liquid is constantly draining into your coil chamber. Even if you are very careful to not overfill or flood your atomizer, some fluid will make it in there. Fluid left inside the atomizer continually can cause problems with stale-tasting vaping, as well as a buildup of un-atomized particles on and around the coil, something that can definitely cause a clog and degradation of components if left unattended.

One theory for clearing out your atomizer is to disassemble your e-cigarette, and place your atomizer, battery connection side UP (or at a slight angle) and allow the unvaporized juice to drain onto a piece of tissue paper or absorbent cloth. When left overnight, you will be able to see that liquid has collected on the tissue.

Another, more proactive way to expedite this process is to take your atomizer, place it over your cloth, battery connection side up again, and gently blow into the hole where the atomizer and battery couple. As you breathe into the hole, you will hear a light gurgling sound as the any additional liquid is being cleared from the heating coil. As you’re doing this, pay close attention to your breathing, as you don’t want to inadvertently force saliva into the coil housing. After every two or three breaths, LIGHTLY tap the atomizer onto the cloth or tissue. If any fluid remained in the atomizer from the day’s use, you will see it slowly begin to collect on the tissue. Repeat this until you’re no longer hearing a gurgling sound when breathing into the connector. After you’ve completed this, place the atomizer (standing up) on a clean piece of tissue, as additional liquid will continue to drain down the atomizer wall.

Some advocate pushing a piece of cloth or the corner of your tissue slightly into the atomizer in order to soak up any remaining liquid. I find this to be problematic, especially with individuals that are new to e-cigarettes, in that while doing this, you might be inadvertently leaving fuzz or tissue particles inside your atomizer housing. It’s probably best that you do what you can without actually placing any foreign object INSIDE the atomizer. You can effectively clean your atomizer without it, and you’ll avoid any complications.
